The Workplace Skills (WPS) Series

The Workplace Skills Series are offered at two occupational levels - Operations and Supervisory.

Operations Supervisory
For those who take instructions and are not responsible to supervise others. For those who are responsible to supervise the work of others in their unit.

The WPS training modules may be taken individually by workers to address specific gaps in current skills, or as a complete programme cumulating to a Career Readiness Certificate (CRC). Below are the courses under the WPS series:

The Workplace Literacy (WPL) and Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Series

Workplace Literacy (WPL) - improves your English literacy (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing)

  • WPL(Comprehensive) programme covers English Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing skills (90 hours)
  • WPL(Conversational) programme covers English Reading, Listening and Speaking skills (45 hours)
  • WPL(Writing) programme covers English Reading & Writing skills (45 hours)

Workplace Numeracy (WPN) - improves your Numeracy

There are eight language proficiency levels in the WPLN series starting from pre-beginning (Level 1) through proficient use of the language (Level 8). A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be issued to certify your current level of proficiency for each test you take.

Before applying for WPLN training, you will have to go through an assessment to be placed into the right training level.

The WPLN Assessment can be taken as different combinations of the following five components:

  • Numeracy
  • Reading
  • Listening
  • Speaking
  • Writing

Each component takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete.

Reading Assesses your ability to read and to understand in both personal and work environments
Listening Assesses your ability to listen and to understand in both personal and work environments
Speaking Assesses your ability to speak and to be understood in both personal and work environments
Writing Assesses your ability to write and to be understood in both personal and work environments
Numeracy Assesses your ability to use mathematical skills in both personal and working environments

Training recommendation will be based on the selected WPL or WPN training pathway with relevant modalities for WPLN assessment.

The WPLN assessments are computer-based. Assistance will be given to participants with little or no computer skills to help them get used to the use of the mouse and have a go at the practice assessments.

Who can take the assessment?

  • Minimum Age
    • 16 years old
    • If you are taking the assessment in order to enter ITE Nitec courses, MOE has set a minimum age rule for female (18 years old) and male (20 years old - after serving National Service).
  • Basic Understanding of English Language
    • To write your name and your particulars without much difficulty

You will be awarded a SOA for the respective level of Literacy (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing) and Numeracy attained.
